Alexandre de Freitas Barbosa

Alexandre de Freitas Barbosa has a Bachelor Degree in Economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas -UNICAMP (1991), a Masters Degree in Economic History from the Universidade de São Paulo - USP (1997) and a Phd in Labor  Economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP (2003). He also undertook post-doctorate research at CEBRAP from 2007 to 2009. He is currently Professor in the fields of Economic History/Brazilian Economy and International Economics at the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB) of the University of São Paulo (USP) and coodinator of the research group “Rethinking Development at a Lab in his institute (LabIEB).  More recently, his research projects revolve around  three main areas: labour market and inequality in Brazil; the role of of developmentalism in the Brazilian history and the Brazilian economy's pattern of international integration, focusing mainly on the impacts brought about by the China rising  and on the potential of South-to-South cooperation. He has developed studies on labor and inequality for the past 30 year.s. Works with the Anker Methodology since 2016 and now is linked to CEBRAP, an affiliate of the Anker Research Institute (ARI), responsible for the Anker Living Wage Strategy in Brazil.
