2024 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage Report for Rural and Urban Gabon
Abstract
This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Values for rural and urban Gabon to 2024. In 2021, the estimated Living Wage was XAF 200,770 per month for rural areas and XAF 268,721 per month for urban areas, as reported in the original report. The updated Net Living Wage for 2024 is XAF 208,902 per month for rural areas and XAF 276,803 per month for urban areas in Gabon. The Gross Living Wage for 2024 is XAF 228,308 per month for rural areas and XAF 302,517 per month for urban areas, incorporating income tax and mandatory contributions. Inflation in this period was 10.4%. Without accounting for inflation, the Living Wage estimated in 2021 would not suffice for a basic yet decent standard of living in 2024 due to decreased purchasing power. This report also factors income tax and social security contributions, using the most up-to date tax laws.

The Anker Living Wage Reference Value for 2021 for rural Gabon is FCFA 200,770 per month (USD 3692 ) with a 95% confidence interval around it from FCFA 185,077 to FCFA 217,738. The Anker Living Wage Reference Value for 2021 for urban Gabon is FCFA 268,721 per month (USD 494) with a 95% confidence interval around it from FCFA 248,844 to FCFA 288,979. These are the estimated monthly rural and urban wages workers need to be able to afford a basic but decent standard of living for a typical size family of 5 persons.
