2024 Reference Value Update Report: Living Wage Report for Rural Mozambique

Abstract

This report updates the Anker Living Wage Reference Value for rural Mozambique to June 2024. The Living Wage was estimated at MZN 7,684 (USD 120) in the original report for 2022,2 and was updated to MZN 8,093 (USD 127) in 2023. The updated Anker Living Wage for 2024 is MZN 8,354 (USD 128), compromised of a Net Living Wage of MZN 7,200 (USD 114) plus social security and income tax of MZN 1,154 (USD 18). This update takes into account the accumulated inflation from June 2023 to June 2024, 3.0%. Mandatory social security contributions and income tax are calculated based on current tax laws.3 Without accounting for inflation, the Living Wage for 2023 would not be sufficient for workers and their families to have a basic but decent standard of living in 2024, because the purchasing power of the living income would have decreased.
