Abstract
This report provides updated estimates of family living expenses and living wages for the wine grape growing region of Western Cape Province, South Africa. The 2024 update takes into account inflation and changes in payroll deductions since the original Anker living wage study carried out in May 2013 (Anker & Anker, 2013).

2013 Benchmark Report: Living Wage Report for Rural South Africa, Western Cap Region
Summary
This paper estimates a living wage for wine grape growing area of Western Cape Province South Africa using a new methodology developed by the authors that builds and improves on earlier work on living wages published by ILO (see Anker, 2006 and Anker, 2011). This methodology has been used so far to estimate a living wage for urban areas in 9 countries for a multi-national corporation.
