This report updates the Anker Living Income Reference Value for rural Tanzania to 2024. This was TZS 458,092 (USD 200) for 2020 in the original report. It is estimated as TZS 529,140 (USD 202) for 2024. This update takes into account the inflation accumulated from mid-2020 to mid-2024 in the country. Accumulated inflation in this period is estimated to be 15.5% . Without accounting for inflation, the living income estimated in 2020 would not be sufficient for families to have a basic but decent standard of living in 2024, because the purchasing power of the living income would have decreased.
Reference Value Report: Living Wage Report and 2024 Update for Rural Tanzania
The Anker Living Wage Reference Value for 2020 for rural Tanzania is TZS 317,779 per month (139 USD) with a 95% confidence interval around it from TZS 282,615 to TZS 357,046. This is the wage required for workers to be able to afford a basic but decent living standard in a typical rural area of Tanzania. The Reference Value is comprised of a net living wage (i.e. take-home pay) of TZS 272,701 (USD 119) per month plus TZS 45,078 (USD 20) which would need to be paid by law in social security (TZS 31,778) and income tax (TZS 13,300) on the living wage.
